Happy Galentine’s Day!  What's Galentine’s Day, you ask?

Galentine’s Day started as a piece of fiction, a celebration created by the character Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) during the second season of the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation. Leslie declared February 13 Galentine’s Day, a day to celebrate your closest female friendships and an alternate option to celebrating romantic love on February 14. Even though Parks and Recreation ended in 2015, the tradition of Galentine’s Day has lived on in real life as a way to show appreciation for your best gal pals.

You may not be able to gather in person this Galentine's Day, but watching a movie together (virtually) is a great way to spend quality time with your best friends. Set up the Zoom call, make yourself a big brunch (Leslie Knope would suggest waffles) and celebrate female friendship with one of these movies!

In Bridesmaids,  Annie’s life is a mess. When her best friend, Lillian, gets engaged, Annie tries to be the perfect maid of honor while fixing her own problems. Starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy, this movie presents a hilarious take on the sometimes strange expectations of friendship and being a bridesmaid.

Four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans to reconnect and party in Girls Trip. Featuring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish, this is a raunchy movie about how friendships can change over time.

While Hidden Figures may be well-known as a movie celebrating the legendary contributions of three African American women to NASA’s space program, it’s also about women supporting each other against racism and sexism.

If you're looking for a good cry with your best friend this Galentine’s Day, Miss You Already is the film. Milly and Jess have been best friends since childhood, sharing everything from clothes to secrets. When Milly is diagnosed with breast cancer, their friendship will change in ways they never expected.

Looking for a movie to sing along to during your Galentine’s Day party? Try Pitch Perfect, a movie about a new college student who is surprised to find herself leading her school's a capella group to the top of college musical competitions. The even bigger surprise is the friendships she makes with her fellow singers along the way.
